Reaching Home
The Reaching Home program, funded by the Government of Canada provides matched funding for activities to prevent and reduce homelessness in the designated communities of the Cities of Charlottetown and Summerside as well as Rural Prince Edward Island
Reaching Home will fund such activities such as : capital construction including the construction and renovation of facilities; the design and delivery of support services; prevention activities such as eviction preventions; improving the service delivery networks within a community including training front-line staff on homelessness-related activities; community planning; and other activities directly related to the objectives of Reaching Home.
The John Howard Society of PEI is acting as the Community Entity for Reaching Home and in this capacity is responsible for the overall administration and the coordination of Reaching Home.
This program is also overseen by a Community Advisory Committee consisting of approximately 20 agencies across PEI who work with the homeless or those who are at risk of being homeless.
The roles of this Community Advisory Committee are providing leadership in matters related to homelessness; confirming Reaching Home funding priorities; and reviewing and approving projects for Reaching Home funding.
Reaching Home supports the goals of the National Housing Strategy, National Housing Strategy, in particular, to support the most vulnerable and to reduce chronic homelessness nationally by 50 percent by 2028.
